Creation of NOBILIS
In 1928, Adolphe HALARD creates the family NOBILIS company by opening a store of wallpapers at the 29 of the Bonaparte street, just a step away from the Beaux-Arts school.
NOBILIS: Latin adjective nobilis (is, e): Noble, distinguished, in good taste. This is the name that the founder of the company, Adolphe Halard, chose in 1928 when he opened a boutique at 29 Rue Bonaparte, between the Church of Saint Germain des Pres and the Beaux-Arts school.
By surrounding himself with many famous artists including Suzanne FONTAN who was known for her ‘joie de vivre’ and romantic style, he became an editor of wallpapers and fabrics : the spirit of NOBILIS was born, blending updated tradition and favourites with a great concern for the quality of colourations, materials and drawings. The quality and high-end finish of its products and services quickly gave NOBILIS an international reputation.

Suzanne FONTAN was a window dresser in Galleries Lafayette, before the war. It is in 1939 that Adolphe HALARD sees her dressing the shop window and goes in to meet her. Suzanne was responsible for creating all the charming printed, delicate ,floral fabrics in pastel tones. She gave them poetic names, giving NOBILIS notability after the war: “Allons voir si la rose”, “Bouquet à deux sous”, “Demoiselle, “les fées” “Mélisande”, Mignonne, Voici l’avril”, “Pécher mignon”, Pucelle”, “Sousou”.
It is around 1952, that NOBILIS extends its activity into wallpaper. The simultaneous edition of wallpapers and fabrics, often coordinated, made it possible to begin exporting. Firstly to the United States, then to Great Britain, then to Belgium and Switzerland ; without ever going through wholesalers but always through decorators and architects.
From 1980, NOBILIS accelerates its international commercial development by opening subsidiaries in European countries, the United States and the Middle East.
NOBILIS spreads its creation in a logic of global decoration. Nobilis launches a collection of furniture, developed in the studio or stemming from collaborations with creators such as Jean-Michel WILMOTTE, Eric SCHMITT and Christian LIAIGRE.<br>In 1994, NOBILIS launches a collection of tableware with renowned company APILCO-YVES DESHOULIERES, famous for Porcelaine de Limoges, to create 2 porcelaine diner services.

A “”tailor-made”” creation service accompanies this launch to meet the most demanding requests by adapting colours and / or dimensions of carpets.
